The Parhar Jats claim descent from the Parihar Rajputs.[1] The Pratiharas were a medieval Indian dynasty, descended from the Gurajara- Pratihara tribe, which said to have invaded India, in the 5th Century.[2]
The Parhar Jats, are all that remains of the Pratihara presence in the Punjab. They were forced to migrate south in 3-4th century AD due to huna and other invasions. The detail about this is in ancient Chinese texts. There is ancient Indian tradition from rajasthan that says all of these tribes were purified(accepted into the high caste fold) by Brahmin priests in a fire ceremony in Mt. Abu. Parhars in Indian punjab are both Jat and Rajput.
